The Emma C. Berry was originally constructed for fishing in the mackerel industry. The ship features a wet well that allowed delivery of fresh live mackerel to market. Emma C. Berry has an interesting history in which she went through many transformations both in rig and deck configuration, with the one and only constant being her hull lines. While often rigged as a sloop, Emma C. Berry spent many years sailing as a schooner. She has been steered via a ships wheel as well as a tiller. At times there have been multiple deck houses and the spreader has been iron as well as wooden (among other changes).
The basis for this model is the 1:32 scale Model Shipways kit for Emma C. Berry. I enhanced this kit greatly, including additional deck details, hand-carved trailboards, and superior rigging. This model has been stained golden oak and protected with several coats of a matte varnish. The completed model is just over 26″ long and approximately 28″ high. The model does not have a large footprint due to its sloop rig; in fact the model is just 5.5″ wide. It is currently mounted on a 32″ x 13″ baseboard.
Nearly 400 hours were spent on this handcrafted Emma C. Berry model. This exquisite model can be yours for $3,500.
