HMS Racehorse (1757)

The HMS Racehorse was originally a French ship, but was captured by the Royal Navy during the Seven Years’ War. At one point she was reconfigured as a bomb ketch and served near North America. In 1773 Racehorse was refitted for Arctic exploration with the hope to reach the North Pole. The expedition proved unsuccessful upon reaching a massive ice front prior to the destination.

My 1:47 scale model, built from an Italian Mantua kit bears resemblance to its role as a bomb ketch, here mounting two mortars. The model has been finished in colors consistent with that of the Royal Navy during the mid to later 1700’s.

More than 200 hours were spent crafting this 23″ long and 20″ high representation of HMS Racehorse. This handcrafted model can be yours for $1,500.
