America (1851)

America was launched 3 May 1851 into the East River within New York City. This yacht soon sailed to England where it would compete in a series of yachting regattas. America gained most of her fame on 22 August 1951 as the first winner of the America’s Cup.

The basis for this model is the 1:56 scale Constructo kit from Spain. The hull is painted black above the water line, but the remainder of the model is left with a natural finish to highlight the different wood species used. The completed model is 23 1/2″ high and has a length of 27 1/2″.

An excess of 250 hours were spent on this handcrafted America model. This fine model, including a full set of handmade sails, can be yours for $2,500.
