The HMS Beagle was launched in 1820 but laid in ordinary until 1825 when she was put into the Surveying Service, where she was commissioned five separate times. It was the third commission in 1831, under Commander Robert FitzRoy, that Charles Darwin joined the ship’s crew as an unpaid naturalist. In 1870, the Beagle was sold and broken up.
Over the lifespan of HMS Beagle, the ship was refitted several times. My 1:64 scale model, built from an Italian Mamoli kit bears resemblance to the earlier style of the HMS Beagle. The completed model, with natural wood finish, is approximately 26″ long and stands 17″ tall from keel to top of main mast.
More than 250 hours were spent on this representation of the famous HMS Beagle. This handcrafted model can be yours for $1750.
